Domain Flipping Isn’t Easy. Yep I said it. Many people get into the domain business to try to flip domains and make money. The only problem is, its an art. There is no easy way around it. Some people have an eye for it and others just will not ever get it. I was one of those “other” people for the past 2 1/2 years. Now I am trying to learn from some of the best in the industry.

Many people and successful domain investors have told me recently some of the secrets of success in the domain name business. Most of the stories were all the same. One of the most common themes in the conversations were to have a vision for the domain BEFORE you pay for the domain. Do not buy a domain with just one end user in mind. Be sure the domain have several end user opportunities for a sale. That is when you have a decent domain and increase you chances to make a profit on the future sale. So the main topic was; Have a purpose for the purchase.

Another important fact to keep in mind when you are getting into the domain name investing business and domain flipping business is to took at the business like a business. Be sure you treat it like a business. I treated my business like a hobby. I was a collector. I liked a domain name, purchased the domain name because it was COOL. Well cool doesn’t always pay the bills, if you know what I mean.

Another important part of successful domain flipping is to look at the domain like a piece of property. Domains are property. They are internet properties. There are many people out there buying and selling houses. Flipping houses for profit has been popular for a while now too. Think of investing like this. Can you buy that house, fix it up a little, and sell it for a nice profit? Would you drop $50k-$150k on a house to flip if its just ok? No, it would have to be a guaranteed money maker before you start digging that deep, right? Do that practice with each domain purchase and you should be well on your way to having a successful year flipping domains.
